The “Product Innovation Project” is a course offered by the Institute of Innovation and Industrial Management (former Institute of Industrial Management and Innovation Research) at Graz University of Technology. The course is following the concept of problem based learning. Within the framework of product innovation project, students from different disciplines, nationalities and universities, united by a hunger for innovation, tackle real-life tasks given by industrial partners. They are supported by the teaching stuff but are independent in choosing tools and methods to resolve the given task.

“Product Innovation Project” (PIP) is not a course as many others. The project lasts for 8 months, counts for 7 ECTS and each team gets a fixed budget to conduct their project and realize their ideas. The goal is a product concept, a fully functional prototype and a business plan. By applying to the PIP, students show that they are ready to face a real challenge and to solve it by using everything they have learned – their knowledge, but also their soft skills. This is what you also have to deal with out there in the real world after academic education – the real challenge. To bring their ideas into reality, the students can make use of different instruments like professional support by the Institute and the industrial partners, room facilities like our brand-new laboratory of innovation and many more!
